Creating a Marvelous Year for 2012

Here we are at the beginning of yet another new year, and yes, it’s time for making and breaking yet another promise to yourself. Sound familiar? You start off by making some grand promise to yourself such as ‘I am going to increase my income by 25%’ and then after a very short time of ‘being strong’, you allow yourself to slip a little. You appease your sense of justification by telling yourself you’ll work twice as hard, and before long, procrastination sets in and you are right back where you started. This is a vicious cycle that happens to millions of well-intentioned people every year. Yes, there is hope for you!

The topic of goal setting has been written about and studied for decades, and yet so many people still fall short of their dreams and aspirations year after year. What is it that you are willing and able to do differently in 2012 to allow these dreams to come to fruition?

Here are seven key components to achieving your heart’s desire.

1. Establish Intentions

An intention is something that is declared to the Universe as an ultimate aim or purpose, whereas a goal is closer to an object of effort or destination. An intention carries with it feeling and inspiration, and commands that the object or desired result be brought forth. To simply tell you to put your intention to paper in full description would not do you any benefit unless you knew why this step is important. You see, writing causes us to think, and thinking brings forth pictures in our mind’s eye. These images bring with them emotions that are the driving force. It is these powerfully charged new images that propel us into action. Our action sets up an equal and opposite reaction from the Universe, and creates our desired result.

Suggestion: Some may say to set intentions for each area of your life, however, this may be an overload to your internal circuitry. Start with one or two intentions and you may expand your efforts from there.

2. Repetition

Repetition is the first law of learning and growth. Have your intention plasticized to a card, and repeat it aloud as frequently as possible. Morning and evening, prior to bed, are the key times to engage your senses into the grandeur of your intention. By doing so, you bring these new images of yourself in possession of the desired result to the forefront of your mind.

Suggestion: As an added action to expedite the engrainment of this image into your subconscious mind, it is also recommended that you write out your intention every day, putting feeling into the words as you write. For myself, I find it is easy to give myself one half hour in the morning to put these thoughts and feelings to paper.

3. Take Action

In the smash hit movie “The Secret”, it is revealed that the secret to obtaining our desires lies in The Law of Attraction, which is fact. However, what most don’t recognize is that there must be action before there can be reaction. ‘Action’ is found right in the word attraction. If all you do is sit by day dreaming of a better life, writing and visualizing the desired outcome, you are in for a rude awakening. At this point, it is not necessary to know every step required to achieve your intention, and even so, adjustments will be made along the way. It is best to schedule concerted actions on a calendar or daily journal which brings with it a sense of accountability to yourself. The more you hold yourself accountable, the quicker the process becomes. It is very important to note that the more emotionally involved you become with you intentions, the more the Universe responds with things such as inspirations. If there is an act or idea that comes to you through inspiration, act upon it as it is the Universe’s way of giving you divine influence.

4. Hitting the Wall

Just as long distance runners hit an internal physical wall that tells them they can go no further, the same holds true with grand intentions. From childhood on, we are conditioned to think, feel and act in ways that are not necessarily of our choosing. This collective of behaviors is called a Paradigm. In this case, let’s call the existing paradigm ‘X’ and the new paradigm (or consciously chosen behaviors), ‘Y’. As we continuously impress our heartfelt intentions upon our subconscious mind, the ‘X’ paradigm takes up arms and fights back. Fear, worry and doubt set in, and if permitted, these destructive emotions bounce us off the wall back the place we know best – status quo. All great achievers experience this wall on a regular basis. The key to breaking through the wall is this: acknowledge it. Acknowledge that it is there and that you understand why you are feeling these destructive emotions. The simple act of acknowledging starts to dissolve the ‘X’ paradigm’s power over you, and allows the new and improved ‘Y’ paradigm to take root. With repetition and practice, you will be able to overcome all the ‘bullies of the mind’ with this technique.

5. Nourish Your Mind

As stated earlier, we have been indoctrinated with others’ beliefs, habits, idiosyncrasies and likenesses since birth. (Note: We have actually been brought into this world preconditioned with false beliefs of the generations that have gone before us through genetics.) These false beliefs that separate us from our true self are reinforced through the mainstream media of television, radio, and marketing designed to keep us imprisoned to a world that revolves around have and have-not. Shut it off! Manifesting an intention requires growth, a ‘busting out’, if you would. How can we expect to expand our very being, realize an intention, when we come from the very place that created the existing undesirable condition? Visit your local library, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Chapters or any other provider of biographies, success literature, and self-awareness materials and become a student of this game called life. To manifest an intention is to grow on all levels, so keep your momentum highly charged and allow this momentum to awaken your true self. Remember, growth is an inside job, and it starts with your mind so nourish it daily as you would your body.

6. Reward Yourself

We live in a world of gratification, where we are acknowledged for our efforts and successes. We are rewarded for good grades in school, winning a sporting event or achieving success in a sales organization. Every one everywhere loves to be acknowledged and appreciated for the deeds they may have done, or the feats they may have accomplished. Manifesting an intention is no different as you have, in fact by its very nature, accomplished something you have never done before. What special gift or event will you give yourself upon realizing the creation of your intention? Become emotionally involved with your reward to yourself; see yourself already in possession of this gift just as you do with the intention itself. Emotion is the catalyst, the driving force behind bringing your desire to life. Feel your way to the finish line!

7. Seek Support

Be the support you hope to find. The easiest and surest way to find someone to encourage you along your quest is to be the support for another person. You may currently be surrounded by naysayers, and that’s O.K, because they will be the first ones to say “I knew you could do it.” Funny how that works. Depending on your intention, you may find a support group or mastermind group close by simply by checking your community bulletins. With the World Wide Web at your fingertips, this support network may already be at your doorstep. The point is, find at least one person who believes in you more than you believe in yourself – you may be surprised to discover who this may be. I once found this kind of belief in someone I thought was ‘on the other team’.

Life can be a miraculous journey if we get out of our own way and allow our desires to become our reality. I’m sure this list can be drawn to include other steps and actions, but in keeping things simple, we become like a child in a world of imagination. Allow your imagination to run free and create a life that you choose to experience, and leave the naysayers behind – you’ll be grateful you did.

Nothing happens unless first a dream. (Carl Sandburg)

What do you see when you dream about your future? Is your life much better than it is now, or are you still battling with the same issues? Are you dreaming about what you really want or about what you think you want? Do you see the whole picture or just a piece of it?

Actions you take today affect how you live tomorrow. If you know what you want -- if you listen to your heart's desire, write down your intentions, and keep them in mind with every action you take --you create your dreams. You turn your desires into intentions and your intentions into reality.
Today I will visualize the life that I want, and not what others think I should be, do or have. Today, I take action on my intentions.

Paradigms That Shape Us

Abundance and lack are opposite heads of the same coin. They fall under Nature’s Law of Opposites, which states that everything has an opposite – up and down, in and out, tall and short, positive and negative. These natural laws have always existed throughout time, and always will. Our role in this game of life is to learn and understand their applications, then put them to use for the benefit of all.

Unfortunately, humankind has been programmed since birth that there is not enough to go around for everyone. This is referred to as scarcity mentality. Examples of this are that there is not enough success, money, food, love, attention and everything else under the sun. The result is the unwillingness to give freely, or to seek power over others.

Scarcity mentality holds the belief of a win-lose situation and isolates us into a ‘me-you’ or ‘us-them’ group. From here, a sense of competition and comparing is established. Scarcity driven attitudes are the result of an inner belief that we are not good enough; that the possession of things or status will remedy what ails us. As Gary Zukav expresses, author of “The Seat of the Soul”, “Scarcity of self-value cannot be remedied by money, recognition, affection, attention or influence.”

The opposite of scarcity is the mindset that there is more than enough, that the world we live in is an abundant world. With this belief, we act from a place of generosity, patience and trust while letting go of our need to control others. With this belief, we come from the place that “I am enough.” The abundance belief, or paradigm, views the world in the terms of boundless potential and there is the possibility of more than enough for everyone.

When we live with the paradigm of abundance, we can then rejoice in the successes of others because we know our own successes are not hindered by the successes of others.

We learned about scarcity and abundance throughout childhood. If we experienced a childhood in which our emotional, physical or psychological needs were not met, we were inherently receiving messages that there is not enough. However, if our needs were met on a regular basis, we were ingrained automatically with the belief that we are good enough, and that we do desire to have our heart’s desires. Through childhood, we emerge with a view of the world around us as one of optimism or pessimism.

Create Your Future Now Or Your Environment Will Do It For You

I think it’s fair to say that everyone knows someone who is constantly complaining about everything and everyone around them, while at the same time they wonder why their own life is drab and full of challenges. How did they become so bitter and spiteful, and how do they actually live with themselves? They are absolutely no fun to be around, unless you are just like them.

As a Professional Coach and Transformation Facilitator for Bob Proctors’ critically acclaimed “Thinking Into Results” program, it is quite easy to determine the cause, and will be for you once you understand the mechanics at work within each of us. It works the same for every living soul in every country all the time. The answer, and you may have heard this before, is “We become what we think about.” (James Allen)

A very powerful lesson we cover during the 12 week “Thinking Into Results” program is called “The Secret Genie”. During this lesson, participants come to realize and understand that we have 5 physical senses (site, smell, taste, hear and touch), and that we have been programmed since birth to judge ourselves and our worth by what we experience in the environment around us. This information is then directly and immediately fed to our Subconscious Mind because we become emotionally attached to it – we take ownership of it, it becomes ours. Later on during our sessions, we discover that we have more powerful tools, such as Will, that allow us to look at the environment then consciously accept or reject the same information picked up through our senses. This outside information obtained from our environment has absolutely no weight when it comes to our actual worth or potential. It is a self-professing prophecy when we allow this to occur.

Now what if you exercised your Perception faculty, one of the higher faculties we all have that distinguishes us from other life forms, invoked the Law of Polarity, that states everything has a positive and negative aspect or pole, and looked for the opportunity in the situation or event? We would then internalize a positive thought or image, while simultaneously attracting to us other events or circumstances of the same positive nature. This is the power of knowledge, and knowledge is developed through study – this is “Thinking Into Results”.

Given the choice, what would you choose – a life of doom and gloom, or a life of many blessings? Each takes the same amount of energy to create, so why waste time and energy creating a miserable existence. We can think our way into a positive or a negative life – the choice is yours.

Deliberately Happy

Is it possible to be happy and joyous most of the time? Absolutely! Happiness is an inside job; it is a decision made in the conscious mind that expresses itself in your physical experience. Just look at the children in your environment, or that you see playing around you - they express their natural joy automagically. You may be thinking that little children are free of daily concerns, and don't have anything to worry about, but you are free to make this conscious decision as well! You are free to consciously choose worry or joy, and whatever you choose will attract exactly that through Universal Law. Joy attracts more things to be happy about, and worry attracts more things to worry about.

Today, I consciously choose to be a beacon of light, a radiant being that is fun to be around.

Spirit Aborted

This energy of Spirit is alive and available, but I cut it off in a thousand little ways. Today, instead of blocking Spirit my life, I will invite it. I will not retreat from Spirit's intent to evidence itself in my day. I will instead learn to read the circumstances and coincidences of my day as a student researching the many varied ways that the spark of Spirit play in my life.

Today, I will study the manifestation of Spirit  through the events and circumstances that present themselves to me throughout the day.

Christmas, Love and the Law of Attraction

"And now, for a bit of holiday silliness with a very serious message:

To receive, manifest or attract anything you desire, “send a letter to Santa Claus”:

* Ask: This is your energetic vibration; your intention; your desire. Ask in the spirit of Love. That puts you on the “Nice” high-vibration list as opposed to the “Naughty” low-vibration list! Kids are taught to be good and behave in order to get what’s on their Christmas list: in other words, their vibration has to be high to manifest what they desire… unless they enjoy receiving coal.

* Believe: Don’t dilute the high vibration of your desire with the low vibrations of fear and doubt; kids are taught to believe in Santa’s magical powers – flying reindeer, fitting into chimneys, delivering presents to ALL the boys and girls of the world… They are taught to BELIEVE. Santa is a representation of the true power of the Law of Attraction. Just wait… with cheerful anticipation for the chance to finally open your present.

* Let go: Don’t lessen the power of your vibration by trying to control the process or the outcome, which is a symptom of the low energy of fear and doubt. You’ve sent your letter. You’ve put it out there. Santa has it. Be patient, believe, and wait for it. There’s no point in traveling to the North Pole to get your present early (have fun finding Santa’s workshop!). It will come, as long as you keep your vibration high. It’s already yours… and it’s on its way. Feel it in your heart.

* Receive. Open your present."  (Christie Marie Sheldon)

Spirit and I

Holding the belief that Spirit and I are separate brings forth the issue of accountability in that I relinquish the absolute fact that I am the creator, the manifestor of experiences in my life. Spirit is not something separate from me that I go visit on Sundays for an hour or two - Spirit is part of the very fabric of my being - it's always present, always active, always aware. Spirit lives in all of us - it beats our hearts, and fills our lungs with oxygen, and heals our flesh wounds without a second thought.

Spirit, however, cannot solve our life challenges or concerns, but can provide guidance and solutions when we allow ourselves to accept it into our lives all of the time, in every moment.  Spirit is for us in every instance, in every situation. It is up to us to abide by the foundational laws that Spirit acts through, for it is Universal Spirit that has written the Universal Laws in the tablets of successful living and self-manifestation.

Today, I accept Spirit as the higher part of me, and I shall act and behave according the laws under which it also abides.

Honoring Self

Life is not perfect, but can be excellent. We make lots of mistakes along the journey. We may fall or trip up as we are masterpiece in progress. When we allow ourselves to be aware of this, we grow from the experience.

Many times during our lives, we commence down the path of self-change, and then become so caught up in the process that we forget to stop "and smell the roses". We forget to pay homage to ourselves for embarking on this new path of self-growth.

Healing and self-growth is a process that calls for tenacity and consistency. It takes will power to stay on this path that leads to a fruitful, joyous, healthy life. It takes effort to be an active co-creator of our lives. This path mandates that we have the courage to "shine a light or allow a light to shine on parts of ourselves that we'd rather keep private". It means having the courage to acknowledge the work that still requires attention. Honoring ourselves along the way to self-discovery, self-growth, and quite often, self-healing, is an integral part of the process.

Today, I honor myself for the progress I have made this far, and accept that I will never be perfect but can absolutely be awesome!

Moving Through Fear

"Instead of being at the mercy of wild beasts, earthquakes, landslides, and inundations, modern man is battered by the elemental forces of his own psyche. This is the World Power that vastly exceeds all other powers on earth. The Age of Enlightenment, which stripped nature and human institutions of gods, overlooked the God of Terror who dwells in the human soul."  Carl Jung

Fear, or as otherwise stated, "false expectations appearing real", is in our imagination. It can be a crippling dis-ease that confronts us at the most inopportune moments in life. It is a thief of our dreams, hopes and desires. It stifles millions of people every day. Is it real, or just imagined?

As my mentor and coach Bob Proctor puts it, fear is "The Terror Barrier" - a programmed response backed by emotion that determines our actions. When we hit this barrier, we have but two options - bounce off the wall and go right back to personal imprisonment, or realize what is causing the fear which allows us to move through it. Fear, or terror, lives in our paradigms and takes hold of us when we are at the point of  braking the norm - our preconditioned behaviour is fighting back, fighting for its existence in us. It is at this very moment that me must recognize it for what it is which gives us the ability to become aware of the moment. Awareness is the first step to overcoming our fears.

Today, when faced with fear, I will recognize it as the thief of my dreams, the goblin under the bed, and in doing so, I weaken its power over me.

“When the student is ready, the teacher shall appear.” (Ancient Chinese Proverb)

The student knows they are ready when a burning desire to learn and grow erupts from within like a volcano. Then and only then, the teacher appears. The teacher may seem to be a physical entity, but in reality, truth, the teacher was always there, buried under the years of lies and fear, and all the illusions of the mind, and not the heart.  Kevin Hanna Author and Entrepreneur

I Am What I Think I Am

Today, I will exercise the muscle of my mind, God's greatest gift to me, to create a vision of what I would like to do, to have, to become or experience. I will exercise this great muscle  to push me through my mental laziness and create a vision of splendor. I will allow myself to see it in all of its splendor. I will consciously accept it as being here and now. I will taste it, touch it, smell it, hear it and feel it as if it already existed in the now; as if it were already a natural part of my life. Then I will let go and let the Universe do its part by natural law. Throughout my day, I will give thanks in sincere gratitude for for the reception of this blessing.

The Universe acts by and through specific laws, and as such, so must we in order to be conscious creators of our own experience.

Laughter

A hearty laugh can warm a cold room and make our spirits soar. But many are afraid to laugh, especially when we make mistakes. We think we're supposed to be perfect, and we don't allow ourselves to make mistakes. However, we're not a mold punched out by a machine. We're human beings, with all our wonderful flaws. It is those flaws that make our lives interesting and surprising. Who knows when we might accidentally bump into a chair or catch our sweater on a doorknob? We needn't feel self-conscious, it happens to many of us.

Today, I allow myself the pleasure of laughter, even if it is at myself.

Perception and Life Challenges

According to the Law of Polarity, what may at first appear to be a challenge in our life, must also contain a  beneficial circumstance. When we find ourselves in a perplexing situation, or challenge, our minds typically are not focused on solutions or benefits. However, it usually takes the perspective of hindsight to see both sides of the event or circumstance. Personally, I have learned over the years that some of my most powerful lessons were the fruit of a painful experience. With understanding of Universal Laws, it is refreshing to know that every challenge or painful event has a silver lining.

Who we have become is a direct result of how we have moved through these accumulated experiences - we are the sum total of them. We can either reflect on them, learn and grow, or.....become stuck in them, stagnate and parish.

Today, I look for the opportunity for growth in every challenge I face.

A Man, a Boy, and a Donkey

A man and his son headed to market with their donkey. A man on a horse passed them and asked, "Why aren't you riding your donkey?"

The man placed his son on the donkey, and they continued on their way. They passed by a family working in their fields. A young girl said. "Look at that lazy boy riding while his father is walking."

The man told his son to get off the donkey, and he climbed on. They passed a group of women and one said, "What a selfish man, making his son walk while he rides."

The man asked his son to climb up on the donkey with him. They passed a traveler on the road, who said, "That poor donkey is carrying too much weight."

Not knowing what to do, the man and his son began to carry the donkey. But the donkey kicked so violently they released their hold and the donkey ran away.   Aesop

The Moral of the story: In striving to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one.

When we attempt to please every one, our efforts go to waste. When we strive for excellence in our own life and affairs, the world around us changes and becomes a better place.

Today, I will work to be a better person and leave the rest to the Universe.

Passing On

Last evening, I stood by with my wife and in laws and watched the last fleeting breath leave the earthly body of Pappa Stafford. Grandpa was a man I knew little of, though he left his 'mark' on me quite profoundly.

I recall his passion for cultivating roses so the neighborhood birds would come visit.
I remember his never-ending unconditional love for his family.
He had an unwavering faith in God and Heaven which was the foundation of his life.
At the age of 90, his handshake was one of a true man, a father, a grandfather, a friend, a husband and a pillar in society.

Ernie now lives in the place he held in his heart through two world wars, the early passing of a daughter, and the health battles he conquered over the last 18 months.

He will be sorrowly missed, though we know Ernie is now back from whence he came - with God.

Ebb and Flow of Life

In life, every minute of every day is not perfect and filled with happiness. There are times when my feelings and emotions wander into a 'dark and miserable' place. There are times when I am simply in a bad mood, and want to spend time alone to reflect and allow these emotions to surface.

Life is about experiencing emotions of all kinds - this is how we know what energetic vibration we are in. Being aware of these negative emotions is what allows us to move through them into a positive vibration. It coincides with the Law of Polarity, or Law of Opposites. This is how we learn to become our true selves.  These feelings are all part of personal awareness and growth.

Today, I am aware of how I feel, and use these feelings to guide me into a more blissful state of mind.

What Others Think of Me

What others may think of me is none of my business - they are their thoughts, not mine. My business is to experience myself and my life in this Spiritual Universe. How can I connect with my spirit if I am worried about how others feel about me? When I get caught up in worrying about what others think, I spend all my energy on something I have no control over - others. I lose contact with my own experience and expend my energy trying to create or avoid an imagined experience, a frightful experience or a wished for experience. The opinions of others will rule my experience if I allow them in. Being consumed by them will rob me of my life.

Today, I'll keep my thoughts on my own experience, and give no heed to what others may or may not think or feel about me.

Change

A house or a life can not be built without some form of foundation. When we commiserate in misery, or walk the 'poor me path', it seems our lives will not and cannot change. There is no foundation to build on. We have no working principles in our lives. We believe that we can not become the good  we want to become.

Until we stop wallowing in self doubt and all forms of destructive thinking, we don't know that there is a way we can make ourselves, one day at a time, into the kind of person we can accept.

Today, I will find the good in me and build on it.

Spiritual Awakening

Is it possible that we conceive of a spiritual awakening as something gained by blissful tranquility and peace? For many, myself included, it would appear as though this awakening into the realm of Spirit, the Creator of Life itself, more frequently comes through human suffering, a time when we are at our lowest.

"I can grow spiritually wherever I am. Love is the ultimate and the highest goal to which man can aspire. Then I grasped the meaning of the greatest secret that human poetry and human thought and belief have to impart: The salvation of man is through love and in love... In a position of utter desolation, when man cannot express himself in positive action, when his only achievement may consist in enduring his sufferings in the right way - an honorable way - in such a position man can, through loving contemplation of the image he carries of his beloved, achieve fulfillment. For the first time in my life I was able to understand the meaning of the words, "The angels are lost in perpetual contemplation of an infinite glory."  Viktor E. Frankl

"Love thy Neighbor"

Love is actively listening to our fellow man and really hearing what they have to say. Sometimes we find it hard to listen and hear because we are so wrapped in our own stuff, or we have another agenda.

It is impossible to really hear and understand another when we are internally focused on ourselves.

When it is we who need to be heard, we feel that we are understood and accepted when the other person is not trying to fix us, or give us all of the answers. We all need a friend, a confidante, to let us pour our hearts out to, to share our experiences with. By giving another the same attention we'd like to have, openly and without our agenda in the way, we create by the Golden Rule, and we allow ourselves the intimacy of true friendship.

The Road I Travel

I travel along my own, individualized road through this life -  I am one of a kind, just as you are. It is not my place to judge another person nor should I take others' opinions of me to heart. There have been so many experiences, beliefs, thoughts and actions that have gone into creating who I am - my road in life has been of my own creation, and all those in my environment have an individual road that they travel. I will not judge another person because it is not my road they are travelling along.

As we are all connected through Spirit, when I judge another, I judge myself as the environment around me, the opinions and perceptions I hold are the mere reflection or image of what is really inside of me.

Today, I travel my own road, and look at others with respect, acceptance and gratitude.

Soul in the Natural World

Have you entertained the possibility that each and every thing, animate and inanimate, carries and is made up of Universal energy or Spirit? Spirit is genderless and shapeless; a part of the air, a bird or an animal, and it lives in everything around us. Spirit is life. Our individual Spirit is an expression of the Universal Spirit, as well as the fallen log and the leaves that rustle in the breeze. All that is contains Spirit and is an expression of Spirit. When we perceive the world around us as being manifestations of Spirit, we begin to see it differently, to value it anew. The world becomes alive, as opposed to just a thing. When we perceive the world as being alive with Spirit, we can connect with it and engage with it rather than try to manage it and move it mindlessly around.
Today,  see the world as a manifestation of Spirit - alive and creating wonders.

Reflection

It's time for us to realize that our attitude - toward the life we're creating and the people in it -  has a tangible, measurable and profound effect on what we experience day by day. When we expect good, then good will surely come to us. When we thrive each day to focus our attitude and perceptions on a sound spiritual foundation, we know it will alter all the experiences of  life for the better, too.

Today, do you accept the fact that you are accountable for all of the experiences in your life, good or bad?

Engagement

Today I will engage in the experience of living. Thinking about life is not living it. Jane Austin referred in her writing to "the healing waters of action." Participation in living is the key to being a part of the world, valuable, seen, heard and known. When we withdraw from the world around us, we withdraw from soul because the world is of the soul. Being a part of the process of living is being and growing with soul and spirit. Times of reflection and meditation are not disengaging from life - rather, they are engaging into it, connecting to it at a deeper level. Withdrawing or hiding from life are fear-based actions. Participation is forward-moving and interactive. It gives life a feeling of exuberance and purpose. I will engage fully in my day today in whatever it is that I do.

Self Imposed Barriers

My roll in life is to work with myself sincerely and honestly. To remove the emotional and mental obstacles that are in the way of my personal well-being and my soul experience - this is part of my life experience.  Soul is light and it is what I put in its way that keeps me from experiencing it. My anxiety, depression, sense of meaningless-ness and purposelessness can deplete the experience of soul. By being aware of my personal issues and working through them, I act on my commitment to deepen my relationship with my soul and to open my heart to love.
Today I am aware of the barriers that stand in my way of experiencing soul and love.

"Attitude Is The Key To Life"

"Victor Frankl once wrote, "Everything can be taken from a person but one thing: the last of human freedoms - to choose one's attitudes in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way." Frankl was right. Attitude is a choice. You could be faced with a thousand problems, many or most over which you have absolutely no control. However, there is always one thing you are in complete and absolute control of and that is your own attitude.

When you surrender control of your attitude to what appears to be a negative situation, you will react to that situation. More often than not, reacting is inappropriate. On the other hand, if you were to remain objective, you would respond to the situation appropriately, thereby creating a winning situation.

If attitude is such an important word, why do so few people understand it? To be honest, it wasn't until I was in my late 20s when I finally understood its full impact. All through my teens and into my early adult life, I can't tell you the number of times that I heard, "Bob, if you'd just change your attitude, you would do a lot better." In retrospect I can easily see the cause of my problem. I didn't know what attitude was, let alone know how to change it!

Attitude is the composite of your thoughts, feelings and actions. Your conscious mind controls feeling and ultimately dictates whether your feelings will be positive or negative by your choice of thoughts, then your body displays those choices through action and behavior.

Attitude is actually a creative cycle that begins with your choice of thoughts. You do choose your thoughts and that choice is where your attitude originates. As you internalize ideas or become emotionally involved with your thoughts, you create the second stage in forming an attitude; you move your entire being - mind and body - into a new "vibration." Your conscious awareness of this vibration is referred to as "feeling". Your feelings are then expressed in actions or behaviors that produce the various results in your life.

Positive results are always the effect of a positive attitude. Attitude and results are inseparable. They follow one another like night follows day. What I mean by that is: one is the cause, the other, the result. There is a term we use to distinguish this "cause and effect" relationship, it is called The Law of Cause and Effect. Simply stated, if you think in negative terms, you will get negative results; if you think in positive terms you will achieve positive results. Ralph Waldo Emerson reiterated that same point when he said, "A person is what they think about all day long." The results you achieve in life are nothing more than an expression of your thoughts, feelings, and actions. Take a close look at your life and evaluate the results you are achieving in various areas. See if you are able to relate your attitude to your results.

Winning and losing are opposite sides of the same coin - and that coin is attitude. There are many things wrong in this world; unfortunately that is all some people are able to see. Those who view the world in this light are often unhappy and somewhat cynical. Usually, their life is one of lack and limitation and it almost appears as if they move from one bad experience to another. I know people who are like this and I'm certain you do as well. It would appear as if they were born with a streak of bad luck and it has followed them around their whole life. These individuals are quick to blame circumstances or other people for their problems, rather than accepting responsibility for their life and their attitude.

Conversely, there are others who are forever winning and living the good life. They are the real movers and shakers who make things happen. They seem to go from one major accomplishment to another. They're in control of their life; they know where they are going and know they will get there. They are the real winners in life and their wins are a matter of choice.

You can experience that kind of life as well, you only need to decide. Making that simple decision is the first step to a new life. Dorothea Brand once said, "Act as if it were impossible to fail," and I challenge you to do so. By simply becoming aware that you can choose your thoughts each and every day, you will change your entire outlook. You have the power to choose an abundant life no matter your circumstances. That active choice will allow other positive people and opportunities to be attracted into your life. Don't wait to experience all the wonderful things the universe has in store for you. Start today by working on your attitude and welcome the abundant life that you were meant to lead."  (by Bob Proctor)

Self Sabotage

How do we feel around miserable people? Angry, trapped, negative, and anxious to get away from them. Somehow, many people have developed the belief that depriving ourselves, by becoming 'spiritual martyrs',  being a victim, and suffering needlessly will get us what we want.
It is our job to be grateful for all of our blessings in life; to notice our abilities, and our strengths, and to take care of ourselves by developing and acting on them.

It is our job to notice our self sabotage, and begin to take steps to allow and give ourselves abundance. It begins inside of us, by changing what we believe we deserve, and by treating ourselves the way we deserve to be treated.

Life is not hard, but we make it more difficult by neglecting ourselves. There is no glory in suffering, only suffering. Our pain will stop when we take responsibility for ourselves and stop our own pain.

A New Life

Today's post is not one of inspiration to others, perse, but of personal inspiration. I have returned from two glorious weeks in the tropics, and have returned a married man - a very happy married man at that.

With this new commitment in my life, I choose to create a wonderful home life full of love and sharing, prosperity and health.

To a new beginning!

The Power of Love

Love is alive with the force of the Universe. In and through love, I connect with my higher self, with transcendental experience. Love is a spiritual gift, frightening in its power, devastating when lost. It is the bridge over which spirit moves toward flesh, a vessel of divine energy, a force that has the power to fight darkness with warmth and light. Love and relationships are what make the world go round. I will not lose faith in people. Today I will open myself to giving and receiving love.

Laughter is the best Medicine

Whether it's watching a funny movie, playing a game with my friends, reading a humorous book, or finding a way to just be silly, I will get in touch with my playful side and have fun. A balanced life means experiencing laughter along with being serious. Not only am I willing to be a responsible adult, but I'm also willing to laugh, have fun, be playful, be childlike, and enjoy the simplest of pleasures.

My Perception

In solitude, I allow myself to fully view my own thoughts and feelings. When I become aware of what feels like garbled data, and  understand more clearly what I am seeing, feeling and hearing, then I am ready to grow. Some days, learning how to live feels like struggle, but then I consider the alternatives - living a hollow and meaningless life, wasting or even resenting life, living stupidly and blundering mindlessly along, living only on the surface, never letting anything or anyone really touch or move me is certainly not living by my divine plan. When I consider the alternatives, it puts the struggle in perspective, and from there I create a new wondrful experience.

On Success

  So laugh often and much,
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better;
Whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.    Emerson

The Wolf and the Crane

A wolf had been eating when a bone became stuck in his throat. Soon, the pain became excruciating. He rushed to a pond, thinking water would loosen the bone. But he could not swallow. Frantic, he looked around and saw a crane watching him. "I would give anything," he rasped, "if you would remove this bone from my throat. Your neck is long and your beak is strong. Please help me."

The crane agreed. It lowered its neck and put its long beak into the wolf's throat, removing the bone. "I would now like the reward you promised," said the crane.

But the wolf growled. "It is enough that you have placed your head into my strong jaws, and I have spared your life. Be gone with you, or you will be my next dinner.
The Moral of the story: An enemy's promises were made to be broken. (author unknown)

On Success and Fear

Success is not achieved by working through other people's standards. However, if we do our best according to the standards we think the Universe has in mind, we'll be successful. And from the Universe we'll always receive unconditional love and acceptance.
Sometimes we are haunted by fears that our best isn't good enough. Those fears hinder our performance, thus validating them. We can slip into those immobilizing fears if we aren't of them.

Our higher power will help us do whatever task lies before us when we live within the parameters of natural law.  Our job is simply to go forth, taking the Universe as our partner, and set about completing the task. We will not falter if we remember where our strength rests comes from lies.

Self-esteem is one of the byproducts of a job done in accordance to natural law. An additional byproduct is that we learn quickly to rely on those irrefutable laws, thus reducing the time we give to fear.

Being Connected

Today, I look forward to the beauty, blessings, wonders and meaning that is present within our simple, everyday life. Our world is extraordinary, but I have to show up to experience it. Miracles are born all around us every moment of every day. They surround me every day, yet to walk right by them as if they contained no mystery, no magic, no soul is denying ourselves the fulfillment which is life itself. If I want to see these miracles and wonders, I will start where I am. From this moment on, I will 'stop to smell the roses'. It is all right here, it always was - I just need to be aware.

A Wonderful Thought to Repeat

I am so happy and grateful now that I am aware of the XFactor in my environment, and in my paradigms. From this moment on, I will be in control of my choice of positive thoughts, feelings and actions. I will remain in a positive emotional vibration. Positive Universal God-force energy, and all of it's blessings and wonders, now resonate with and are attracted to my positive vibrational experience. I here and now, both openly and gratefully, accept ALL of these wonderful blessings.

Giving

Today I will open my heart to the act of giving. Giving and receiving flow through the same frequency. When I am able to truly give of myself, I have tuned into that frequency, and have therefore opened the channels through which I receive. When I love another, I am loving myself - giving and receiving love simultaneously. The act of giving is the master key. In giving I receive, in loving I open myself to the experience of love - the Universe is for me, not against me. If I open the essence of me to the world around me, in return my experience will be filled tenfold with the blessings of love, health, relationships and prosperity.

Soul

Soul is non-material, and unmeasurable. It is not something that can be won or bought or sold. Soul isn't a reward that someone gives me if I am good enough, or an accolade I earn by being smart enough, or an object I can buy when I am rich enough. Soul is that place where all the waters meet, where giving and receiving are one, where forgiveness and release happen, and where ego and vanity disappear. Where soul thrives, selfishness does not, and where selfishness thrives, soul does not.

Courage to Succeed

A key quality that distinguishes a top-notch performer in any field, is the way they respond to bad days. Everyone has good days and bad days, and the good ones are certainly easier to handle. But do we allow the bad ones to throw us off our game? Do we become so disturbed by our bad days that we lose focus on our goals?

Personal development is a process; it's never an end goal that we reach and hold. Our developement includes preparing ourselves to respond well to the bad days. We do that by keeping our eye on the big picture, knowing that however bad things may seem at the moment, they will change. We learn to reach deep into our spiritual center for the courage to stay focused in the midst of our hardest days. We don't have to do it alone. We have the spiritual support of our Higher Power and the companionship of our friends to keep us on the path.

Making Mistakes

Perfection does not exist. We make progress toward a goal, but we rarely move in a straight line toward it without sidesteps. Life is like a zigzag chain of events that first brings everything together just as we want it and then messes it up all over again. We try to do our best, but inevitably we make mistakes. So a large part of normal daily life is spent fixing and repairing mistakes in judgement.
When we accept imperfection as a fact of life, we make peace with the constant need for repairs. Saying I made a mistake is never fun, but when we do it we grow stronger. Every disappointment, every complaint, points to an underlying lesson for growth. We can use them to point us in the right direction. We do not learn anything new from correctly repeating what we already know. We learn from making mistakes and discovering the underlying lesson behind them.

"Forty-five Lessons Life Taught Me" by Regina Brett

Written by Regina Brett of the Plain Dealer, Cleveland , Ohio .
"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me.
It is the most requested column I've ever written.

My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good..

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words :'In five years, will this matter?'

27. Always choose life..

28. Forgive everyone everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

35. Don't audit life.. Show up and make the most of it now.

36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.

38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

Who are we, really?

It seems like we are one person on the inside, and yet we often act like someone else. Can a good person do bad things? Can a bad person do good things? It's pretty confusing, isn't it?

Self discovery and awareness teaches us that we can change who we are by changing the things we do. We can become the kind of person we want to be by acting as if we are already that person. For example, if we want to be healthy, we can act as if we are a healthy person; that is, don't consume the things you know are not consistent with health, and don't hang out in places that open the door to temptation. If we want to be a caring person, we can do caring actions for others.

We are the person we feel like on the inside. We are also the person we act like on the outside. With personal development and awareness, we change how we think, feel, and act. We practice making changes in each of these areas, and every time we do well in one area, we help in the others too.

Opening up to Universal Power

I will open my self to the Universe today. Both on an individual and a universal level, Universal energy, love, is there waiting for me to let it in. This is my birthright, just as the air and the sun are as much mine as anyone's - Universal energy is here for me. There is no price tag on it, no being good enough in the eyes of the world to finally deserve it. All that is required is a recognition and a willingness to allow Universal energy into my life and heart, into my being. For me to understand that this is available to me at all times requires a paradigm shift. It asks me to see differently - to look for and identify the mystery of Universal energy in the world as it is, to see unity in diversity and perfection in what is apparently imperfect. Understanding Universal energy asks me to look behind the thin veil of reality and glimpse the infinite.

Choice of attention

Many of us have said, "I can't help myself!" when we tried to stop our constant thinking about other people or their behavior. "I know it's not good for me, but what can I do when they keep acting that way?"

Let us think of ourselves as living in a house with many windows. At each window is a different view, and within each view are many things to catch our attention -- perhaps there are some people, some traffic, some buildings, a horizon, and some trees. If we always go to the same window and focus on the same object, we are not using all our choices. We may have overlooked some things in our lives that need attention. There are many things we are totally powerless over. Our power exists in changing the focus of our attention.

Prayer

Today I pray with the full, unseparated power of God within me. I am one with spirit. When I align myself with the God-force that is present and alive in all things, my prayer has meaning and strength. When I pray to the God-center of my being, I bring a troubled spirit in touch with the light of God. When I pray with full faith that this universe is meant for me and those in it, with a genuine awareness that God and I are one, that there is no separation, then I place my hand on the switch that has power and light behind it. Prayer is dynamic. It speaks to the benevolent force of love and creativity that brings life to this world. I will pray each day, knowing that my prayers are meant to be fulfilled.

Inner Quiet

I create a pool of inner quiet through meditation and contemplation. I create a place of peace within me that I can call on throughout my day. I give myself time to sense the meaning of my life. Unless my mind slows down, I will not be still enough to know through direct experience. I will not have the inner peace to come in touch with deeper and deeper layers of self. If I accumulate and accomplish all that I set out to but lose my ability to enjoy, then I have bought into a fool's paradise. Then I will simply be surrounded by riches that I am unable to appreciate. I will take good care of myself today. I recognize that an important part of taking good care of myself is to give myself the quiet time I need and deserve in order to be happy.

Change of scene has no effect upon unconscious conflicts.

There's no running away from the internal strife. Whatever haunts us must finally be confronted and resolved if we're ever to grow and thus contribute to our world. When we keep secrets locked away, the secrets begin to keep us locked away as well.
It is foolish, and yet entirely human, to think a new location, a new job, a new lover will cure whatever troubles us. The truth is, however, that whatever trips us up is at the same time trying to edge us forward to new awareness, and thus the next level of growth. Our troubles are tools for a strengthened foundation. Without them, we'd soon crumble.

When we consider the conflicts we encounter as opportunities for further development, they excite us rather than provoke anxiety. Changing our perspective can make the same scene appear quite new.

Evolution of Spirit

I am part of a larger plan, the evolution of the human mind. If evolution is natural to the species of plants and animals, then I must be evolving as well. The true student seeks to build on what has been developed. He or she continues to test and prove, to grow theories and then to pass them on in good order to the next generation . I will be a good student of life today, a competent researcher of the human soul. I will do my part to expand in the accumulated knowledge that I have access to, to experiment and add to a body of information and then to pass it lovingly on to all that follow.

Shame

Everyone carries shame. It is a fundamental human feeling. When we carry shame in secret, it distorts our inner world, which creates a distorted, uncomfortable, undesirable outer world. It makes us feel as if we have something bad inside of us that we need to keep hidden, something that, if it were known, would make people run away from or reject us. When we build up resentment and fear, we become paranoid, imagining that people are saying and thinking things about us. Shame can make us lash out or act out; say and do things in an effort to get rid of the feeling. When we do this, we only deepen the shame because only in owning and experiencing the feeling for what it is, can we let it go.

What would you do differently?

Friedrich Nietzsce posed a wonderful thought: " What if a demon were to creep after you one night and say, "This life which you live must be lived by you once again and innumerable times more; and every pain and joy and thought and sigh must come again to you, all in the same sequence..."

What would you do? Would you throw yourself before a moving vehicle and curse the demon who visited you? Or would you answer, "I have never been offered such a joyous blessing?"

How do spend your days now? Who have you not forgiven? Maybe yourself? Do you need to be awakened to the blessings you already have, or are you already in the place you call heaven?

Ask yourself, "What if?"

Daily Priorities

Priorities are not merely something we establish once a year, once a month, or even once a week. Our priorities are visible in the myriad decisions we make and actions we take each day.

Being closely in touch with our inner selves and our Higher Power helps assure that our priorities reflect our genuine needs and desires. When we are securely centered, we will not be unduly influenced by other people but will know what is truly important to us and necessary for our health and well being.

We set our priorities when we do our grocery shopping and plan our meals. We set them when we choose between playing tennis or reading a book or going to see a friend. We set them when we decide how to respond to a negative comment from a co-worker. Our daily priorities reflect who we are and determine what we are becoming. Let's set them with care.

Sharing

I will share my joy with others. Simply living a happy life gives me much to pass around. Living well and happily is no small accomplishment. It means that I am doing something right, that I understand some basic truths about living and prospering in this world. Life is fundamentally simple, but recognizing this and actually simplifying my life requires a strong and mindful resolve, the strength of character to resist the complicated aspects of life that lead to self-destruction. What I have come to know through happy living are the profound lessons passed down through the ages. Appreciating joy in my life and sharing it with others enhances and increases its presence for me.

Today I will share my joy.

Just as the wave cannot exist for itself. but is ever a part of the heaving surface of the ocean, so must I never live my life for itself, but always in the experience which is going on around me. It is uncomfortable doctrine which the true ethics whisper into my ear. You are happy, they say; therefore you are called upon to give much. ...Albert Schweitzer

Self Pity

"Poor little ol' me." The PLOMS. How often do we succumb to this temptation? Usually it's an excuse for not doing what we know we should do, but do not want to do. Or it's a way to manipulate someone else into doing something for us which we should be doing ourselves. If we spend our time moaning and groaning about how unfairly life is treating us, we do not have much chance of  creating a truly wonderful life experience.

Trite as it may sound, the cure for self-pity is to think about those who are less fortunate and start counting our blessings. Taking some action, doing some small thing for someone else, perhaps a phone call -- these are constructive steps to take us off the "pity pot."

When we begin to feel sorry for ourselves, let's remember the true blessings we already have and move out of the vibration of self-pity.

The universe operates through dynamic exchange .--Deepak Chopra

The word currency comes from the Latin word currere, which means "to run," as in "to flow." Currency, of course, is another term for money. By definition, money is meant to be exchanged. We give and receive it. We've probably all heard the expressions "What goes around comes around," "Give and you shall receive," and "You get what you give." We've probably all experienced this phenomenon as well, sometimes with surprise or even amazement.
When we feel we're lacking, we open our hearts to giving. When we give what we seek, we find it returns to us at the right time and place - just when we need it, reminding us that we do not lack for anything. Gifts needn't be material or verbal. They can be good thoughts and prayers, affection, or time.

Today I will give joyfully, knowing that my needs will be met.

Giving BackToday

I will give back to the society in which I live. Looking for what I can do to make this a better world to live. It is soul in action. Spirit is not a stagnant thing, it is alive and moving. I cannot hold onto it or possess it. I need to flow with it, to co-create my day along with it through its spontaneous, moveable state. One of the easiest ways to have soul is to give it away. I cannot give anything that I am not also experiencing, and so in giving spirit and love away, I am also receiving it. Giving in this way gets the smaller me out of my own way so that I can experience the larger one, my transcendental self. The act of giving is an open path toward the soul experience. Paradoxically, giving is the truest path toward receiving, the way that my humanness reaches toward spirit and clears the channels that carry soul's gifts.

Let Go of Victimhood

Thought for the week:
Self-esteem comes from letting go of victimhood.

Affirmations for the week:
I am not a victim.
This week, I will make different choices.

Esteemable actions for the week.

One of the quickest ways to shift from victim to empowered person is by making different and healthier choices. You do that by thinking through your process before you make a final decision. You do it by having the courage to ask questions for clarification and by keeping your eyes and ears open. You do it by thinking through the consequences of your actions. What three actions can you take today that will help you feel more empowered?

Hidden Beauty

What gives meaning to my life may lie beneath the surface. Today I will look not with my eyes but with my senses, to understand and experience what gives my life depth and importance. It is, at times, the promise of a hidden well that gives meaning to the surrounding atmosphere, the knowledge of a source of life that makes the day feel worthwhile and guides my mind closer to the mystery. Understanding comes more from direct experience rather than from collecting bits of information. I sense life's hidden meaning.

"The desert is beautiful", the little prince added. And that was true. I have always loved the desert. One sits down on a desert sand dune, seeing nothing, hearing nothing. Yet through the silence something throbs, and gleams... "What makes the desert beautiful, " said the little prince, "is that somewhere it hides a well."

Something for nothing

Bargains attract. Finding a good value excites us, and we share the news quickly. Wanting anything for free is human nature perhaps. However, we have had to learn again and again that you get what you pay for. This is true of human interactions too.

Why do we think that others will be there for us if we aren't available for them? Having friends means being a friend, even if it's time-consuming. Although friendship's rewards are indisputable, we still tend to wait, letting the other person make the first move. Getting the other person to commit first reduces our effort, perhaps, but we will still receive according to what we give.

Knowing and utilizing this principle simplifies our lives. Once we master it, we never forget it. And what we bring to our relationships will be given back to us.

I am willing to give to others what I want in return today. Their efforts will match my own.

"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly" Antoine de Saint Exupery

If we look at the world through suspicious or angry eyes, we'll find a world that mirrors our expectations - a world where tension will mount, arguments will abound, strife will be present where none need be. However, our experiences in some manner bless us, and we'll recognize that if we'll look upon them with gratitude. Everything in our path is meant for our good and we'll see the good when our hearts act as the eyes for our minds.

When we see with our hearts, our responses to the turmoil around us, the fighting children, the traffic snarls, the angry lovers, will be soft acceptance. When our hearts guide the action we can accept those things we cannot change, and change those we can. And the heart, as the seat of all wisdom, will always know the difference.

Soul Refreshing

Soul is the life-spring within me from which I drink when I am thirsty. It is always willing to entertain another point of view, to take a fresh look, to forgive and try again. It is that bubbly, ebullient part of me that comes back for more, that recovers, that wakes into another morning with new energy. It is my soul that wishes to see meaning and beauty in my daily life. When I let myself feel and know that meaning, I am getting to know my own soul.

Soul is the spring from which I drink.

I couldn't hit a wall with a six-gun, but I can twirl one. It looks good.--John Wayne

Many of us fake emotions because our past experiences never taught us how to use boundaries when dealing with feelings. Now we are oftentimes stumped when it comes to knowing how we should feel or act when we are faced with emotional situations.
Sometimes we need to learn to "fake it till we make it." What is asked of us is to act the part until the part becomes us.
We may not know how to feel anticipation around holidays - but we want to experience joy. We may not know what it feels like to really trust someone, but we would love to be in that position. What we can learn to do is "act as if" - working all the time to liberate the frozen emotions of years gone by - until we actually do experience what we seek.

Like new shoes, my new behaviors and feelings will feel stiff and uncomfortable for a little while. I am willing to live through the "breaking in" period.

Acts of Kindness

Small acts of kindness allow me to touch souls with another person - to
reach out over the great divide and brush for a moment the hand and heart of
another. An act of kindness is never wasted. It benefits the giver as much
or more than the receiver. Anyone who gives with the heart strengthens that
muscle within themselves; it is the aerobic training of the spirit. I will
not expect soul to just enter my life by chance. I will prepare myself,
clean the vehicle that is me, resolve conflicts that tie my mind up and
drain my energy. When I am less self-centered, I am able to take the
person-hood of another into consideration.

I enjoy being kind for kindness' sake.

Repositioning my Self

I will be willing to reposition myself today. When I lock myself into protective, defensive or aggressive poses, I am making any negotiating impossible. Being stubborn and clinging to my rigid position can be both dangerous and foolish. I can take another look.
I am willing to move and be moved.

Shortly after dark, the lookout on the wing of the bridge reported, "Light, bearing on the starboard bow."
"Is it steady or moving astern?" the captain called out.
Lookout replied, "Steady, captain." which meant we
were on a dangerous collision course with that ship. The captain then called to the signalman, "Signal that
ship: We are on a collision course, advise you change
course 20 degrees." Back came a signal, "Advisable for
you to change course 20 degrees." The captain said,
"Send, I'm a captain, change course 20 degrees." "I'm a
seaman second class," came the reply. "You had better
change course 20 degrees. " By that time, the captain was furious. He spat out,
"Send, I'm a battleship. Change course 20 degrees."
Back came the flashing light, "I'm a lighthouse."
We changed course.

I see soul in nature.

Like two cathedral towers these stately pines
Uplift their fretted summits tipped with cones;
The arch beneath them is not built with stones,
Not Art but Nature traced those lovely lines.
And carved this graceful arabesque of vines;
Listen! the choir is singing; all the birds,
In leafy galleries beneath the eaves,
Are singing! listen, ere the sound be fled.
And learn there may be worship without words.

Letting Go of Worry

What if we knew for certain that everything we're worried about today will work out fine?
What if . . . we had a guarantee that the problem bothering us would be worked out in the most perfect way, and at the best possible time? Furthermore, what if we knew that three years from now we'd be grateful for that problem, and its solution?
What if . . . we knew that even our worst fear would work out for the best?
What if . . . we had a guarantee that everything that's happening, and has happened, in our life was meant to be, planned just for us, and in our best interest?
What if . . . we had a guarantee that the people we love are experiencing exactly what they need in order to become who they're intended to become? Further, what if we had a guarantee that others can be responsible for themselves, and we don't have to control or take responsibility for them?
What if . . . we knew the future was going to be good, and we would have an abundance of resources and guidance to handle whatever comes our way?
What if . . . we knew everything was okay, and we didn't have to worry about a thing? What would we do then?

We'd be free to let go and enjoy life.

Today, I will know that I don't have to worry about anything. If I do worry, I will do it with the understanding that I am choosing to worry, and it is not necessary

Worry is a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind.

A trickle of water that drains down the side of a hill poses no problem to

the hill, its vegetation, or the people living in the valley. But if that

trickle grows into a stream, the water will erode a path, carrying along

plants, rocks, and soil, endangering the lives and property of the people in

the valley.

When a worry nags us, it is like that trickle. It poses little threat to us

and can be stopped at any time because it is so small. But if we let more

worrisome thoughts feed into the stream, we will allow it to grow until all

of our thoughts and energy are focused on one worry that has attained great

power.

We all have things we worry about. But we don't have to give these worries

more than passing acknowledgment. The trickles that run through our minds

are okay to have. But to keep them at that size, we need to remember what is

important to us at this very moment. We don't need to let the worries grow.

I have worries just like everyone else. However, I don't have to dwell upon

my worries or make them any bigger than what they are.

I Am Light

I am a child of the universe, fundamentally good. If you dig deep within me, you will find something beautiful and real; you will find spirit. I am not afraid of the light within me and I feel no need to bury it today. Rather than hide my own inner light, I will let it shine through me. When I walk through my day, I will let this light be in me, widen and increase; I will let it look upon others. It is a beautiful thing to have a light within me. I radiate, I shimmer, I glow. I am the vehicle through which soul becomes an actualized force. Today I accept that soul works through me.

I am fundamentally good.
Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.

Change of scene has no effect upon unconscious conflicts. --Edmund Bergler, M.D.

There's no running away from the internal strife. Whatever haunts us must finally be confronted and resolved if we're ever to grow and thus contribute to our world its due. When we keep secrets locked away, the secrets begin to keep us locked away as well.

It is folly, and yet entirely human, to think a new location, a new job, a new lover will cure whatever troubles us.

How Amazing Is This World

How fantastic it is to imagine a creator, a force behind this wondrous mystery of life. Could it really be possible? Could life and death still be life? Am I just another aspect of the cycle of life, of soul? Who is this power that creates such beauty? This mystery is beyond my powers of contemplation. It humbles me, it puts me into perspective, it makes everything else seem so much smaller. Life. Where do I begin to wonder about it? Is accepting the mystery enough or do I need to solve it in order to enjoy it? Perhaps I am only meant to accept and live with the mystery in order to participate, to stand in awe before that which I can probably never fully understand. Today, at least, that will have to do.

If you're dog-tired at night, it may be because you growled all day. --War Cry

Negative attitudes wear us out. Assuming the worst will happen, focusing on just our faults, constant complaining, are attitudes that bring us down. If we stumble on a flight of stairs and feel embarrassed, it's going to feel even worse if we growl and curse. We'll feel much better if we laugh at ourselves and see the humor.

People want to be around those who are cheerful. The good cheer we send out will come back to us from others who are healthy. We can choose these cheerful people as our friends, and our happiness will grow and blossom in this good soil.

Today let me try to say something cheerful to another.

Soul as Life

Soul is life, it is the energy that vivifies and animates. It is where all of me begins. When I take time in the quiet of my day to experience soul, I return to my own origins; I go within for nourishment and self-care. When I am stressed out or confused, it may just be that I am not structuring enough quiet time in my life, enough time to be refurbished through the silence of soul. Soul reveals itself to me in stillness. If I wish to know my own soul, I need to give myself daily quiet time, to contemplate, relax and just be. Without this quiet time, soul has no opportunity to emerge into my day. It is constantly kept beneath the surface, thwarted in its expression and expansion by business and preoccupation. Soul's expression comes when I sense its presence, when I am still enough to allow it to come forth. Soul is ever present in all things. Today I will remember to remember this truth.

Soul gives me movement and life.

For the soul is the beginning of all things. It is the soul that lends all things movement.

Plotinus
